She wasn’t selling anything.

Just watching.

Under the green-striped awning of a produce stall—hands clasped loosely behind her back, face turned slightly to the morning light—she stood like a still point in the swirl of trade and chatter.

The vendor didn’t notice.

The tourists didn’t notice.

But I did.

She was maybe fifty. Maybe older. Hard to tell in a count…
